Dialectic Behavior Therapy
DBT is an innovative method of treatment that has been developed specifically to treat clients suffering from Borderline Personality Disorders. This technique is based on the work of Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. at the University of Washington in Seattle. Each year a team is sent from South Bay for a one-week training program. Following the initial training, the team attends weekly consultation teams for nine months and then returns for the final week of training. At the completion of this training, employees receive Intensive Certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy from Dr. Linehan's Behavior Technology Transfer Group to provide DBT.

Family Group Conferencing
Family Group Conferencing is a treatment approach that has a 10-year history of effectiveness in Australia, New Zealand, and England. It has more recently come to the USA and has enjoyed success on the west coast. Massachusetts Department of Social Services (DSS) has been very interested in developing FGC for protective service families in order to empower these families to better care for their loved ones. In partnership with the American Humane Association and DSS, South Bay offers training for employees who are interested in certification as a FGC Coordinator.

Specialty Certification
Each year South Bay offers a six-week seminar which helps employees to develop expertise in an area of interest. These seminars are available in Trauma Treatment, Family Systems Therapy and Substance Abuse Treatment. Employees who successfully complete a seminar are designated specialists in the particular area and are given a salary increase. These seminars are approved continuing education programs by the American Psychological Association and the National Association of Social Workers.

Leadership Training
Specialized training is available for employees who are selected for South Bay's renowned Leadership Training Seminar. Participants attend regular weekly trainings provided by South Bay's Agency Management Team to prepare for future leadership roles. South Bay's future leaders have accessible opportunities for career advancement as nearly 90% of supervisory positions are filled with internal candidates.
