Department of Health and Human Services Launches NPI Requirements

NPI History
Effective May 2007, the Department of Health and Human Services will require all Mental Health & Allied Care Providers to have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) prior to providing such services. This identifier, which implements a requirement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, must be obtained by all health care providers. If you have not yet received a NPI, South Bay HR staff will assist you in this process!

How do you obtain a NPI?
If you have not received a NPI you can apply for one by going to the NPPES website. Via this site you can complete a web based application or you may complete a printed application provided by South Bay's Human Resources/Recruiting Department. You may also call 1-800-465-3203 for a copy of the application or if you have any related questions.
